Hanging plasma on wall...

You have to spread the weight. How many mounting points does it have? On the yachts they make special plinths for the screens - all custom made by the carpenters (I know you probably don't have that luxury :p). The mounting points have to spread the load onto the surface to which it is attached. Bear in mind the torque on each screw will be quite high. Ideally the best way would be to have mounting points on each corner of the screen - that'd spead the load out quite nicely. If you can find a solid mounting point for each attachement point you might be able to get away with it.

What might be sensible is to get a frame or something made which is just smaller in area to the screen and get that mounted very securely - then mount the tv just to that?

Has long holes where you can fit quite a few screws in, planning to use one in each corner(4) attached to the joists, then a few on the plasterboard itself.

Mate who installs plasmas for a living is popping around today to have a look as well and give me a hand.

Can't wait to get everything set up :D

Have you thought of sinking the TV into the wall?

Not only does it look good, but it means you are cutting a hole where the TV will go, so then can fit a supporting beam of some sort behind to fix it to.

Does sound like a good idea, but I don't have the DIY skills to do that!

hey,

my plasma is hung from the ceiling in the living room , what i did was drill two holes upinto the cross beams and bolted in some climbers hook type rings. i managed to get two lenghs of steel cable which where folded onto them selves to make a loop which i attached the the hooks. i then got my self two hooks which had a flat back to them and epoxy resined it to the back of the plasma left it to dry the night and hung it up using another climbers hook at the other end.

been up for about 5 months and hasnt had any probs but im still scared to this day that the resin will give way :o

I'd screw some short extra pieces to the existing studs, from the floor up to the height needed, to support a horizontal beam and sit the plasma on that.

Like that ^^ using 2"x2" for the half studs and a 2"x4" or 2"x6" for the beam. Although I'd get your plasma installer mate to check over whichever idea you decide to go with before actually doing anything.

Just remember - measure twice, cut once ;)

mines in my bedrooms plasterboards

we bought one of them supports off ebay £60 odd quid should have been £200 if had got it from the place we got the TV

Stick a big hook in the wall.
Find a young child.
Get the young child to hang on to the hook.
If the wall falls down, don't put your TV on it.

This way you get to find out what would happen, without risking damage to the TV.

When we had our plasma put up, we asked the bloke about plasterboard walls and he said they werent a problem, just get those special plasterboard screws ;)
