Hangouts update draining battery

Since the latest update to hangouts I'm getting considerably less battery life. Hangouts is top of my battery list with 41%, yet my phone has been sat doing nothing all day. I spent a hour watching YouTube this morning and thats not even in my top 5.

Has anyone else noticed battery issues since updating hangouts?

Ive heard stories of hangouts killing the battery life

Tried clearing memory, uninstall and clear cache of all the big users and then re install and update them?

I cleared the cache and uninstalled the update. Its updated itself over night again so I will see how it lasts today.

Maybe wait till it actually get's pushed out and should have all of the bugs ironed out.

So I've removed the update, cleared the cache and turned off auto update to stop it updating itself again, and after a day hangouts isn't even in my top 10 apps for battery use and I have 40% remaining. So looks like a likely culprit.

Next test, update, and clear the cache. Back tomorrow!

Yep, its the update. A day of doing very little and Hangouts has consumed 44% of my battery.

I've uninstalled the update and disabled it automatically updating. Shame

Same happened to me twice when I used the downloaded APK, when my update came from the Play Store it didn't happen.
Using it for sms too now which I wasn't before, liking the update, not sure my iOS guys get stickers though : (

Mine was updated on the 24th. No battery issues here.

My update was automatically downloaded from Play.

My Nexus 7 has the same issues so I've had to uninstall the update from that too. Makes me wonder if there's a setting I use that's causing it?

Been using it a few days now since the Play store update and it's not even listed in the battery stars now even after using it for quick a few conversations.
