I'm not, I know the console is sold at a loss but it's a little silly, £40 for a game that on other formats costs almost half, they could reduce the prices a touch (say by a tenner) and that way people would more likely buy more games because they get more for their money, and Microsoft still makes the same amount of money off them?

This is my only gripe with console gaming and this is why I only have 2 games!

At least there're some games with a decent longevity, good pricing on trade-ins, and gamer score addicts will get every last ounce of play out of each purchase.

Why buy the top of the range console then, its always been the same with new consoles, the 360 is no exception.

Wait till more games are out.

i think the pricing is pretty fair considering the time and costs involved in developing these games nowadays, all the games are available for 40quid online, whereas I remember kids at school paying 60quid for games for the n64.

Also most of the games for the xbox 360 have an online element so that vastly increases the longevity of them.

I too have only two games for the console but I think for me to get every achievement on line it will take me some time. I would rather pay a little more for a game that I will get hours of enjoyment out of rather than just buy a run of the mill game that I get bored of in a few hours. Plus with the number of game releases and the various formats available I don't have enough hours in the day to play all the games i currently have let alone play new games. Although I would like to have more games to play I am happy with the ones that I have and can probably see me getting a new game every couple of months just to give me a bit of variety.

at the end of the day MS, its partners and the retail chains all know that the majority of people who own the console in the first 6 months of its life are affluent adult men, thus they can afford 40-50 for a game. by the time all the sprogs and unemployed peeps etc get one there will be a 'classics' type budget release.

The blatant truth is that if we were all more patient we should picck up a console in the last year of its life and enjoy all half price gaming. in 2 years the 360 will be £100 in the shops, and all the best of the games we are shellin out for will b £20 in the shops and 5-10 on the bay.

Patience is a virtue, unfortunately not one i have.

Games retailed for PS2 etc at £40 when they were released too... right? Either way, I'm all for cheaper games. Luckily Asian 360 games are selling online at a US$40 price point :D Just got Fight Night, DOA4 and PD0 for £74 delivered.

Personally i think console games are way to expensive, £24.99 would be more reasonable, can't believe some of the rubbish thats produced and sold for £39.99, especially so called top titles with amazing new graphics but only 10 hours of gameplay. Wru value for money? I'd have no problem paying £40 for something that had more substance and longetivity, however i dont think the same old 04/05/06 rubbish thats constantly churned out is worthy of even a 4.99 tag :P

Yeah, I don't mind pay £40 for a decent game.
But, Kameo,COD2 and Condamned were to short for the playing time. :(

whatever! i agree about Condemned (but a great few hours they were), but CoD 2 on any difficulty above wimpy-girlie-mode is not that easy, at least it wasnt on PC and from what i hear vet is a perty challenge on 360. Kameo has given me the longest challenge of any 360 title to date with the possible exception of PGR3.

Its easy to say any game is short if you play it in a manner that imbues it with shortness or skips much content. Morrowind was a short game on the one hand with the main quest being do-able by a very competent player in under 10 hours! yet ive happily put 1000+hours into it over 2 years and still havent finished the main quest.

I'd argue that their 'real' cost is not £40.

I buy all (well almost) my games from Tesco for £39.97. I play them thoroughly and then sell them to fund my next game. I've taken between £25 and £35 back depending on how old the game is. I used to hoard games; these days I know I only really have the time and inclination to have a couple on the go at a time.

So, the it's 'really' only costing me on average £10 a game; which I think is pretty good.

I also think if I'd actually show some patience and wait and buy the games 2nd hand in the first place for c£30 I could lower this to probably only £5 or so per game.

I think MS and the game publishers know that the market for 2nd hand titles in the UK is huge and have priced accordingly. No one is forced to pay full wack or keep a collection.

I don't think so myself.
COD2 was one of the only games I have ever bothered to finish because ti was so damn good. Infact I have even gone back to trying to redo it on Vet level and it's still superb.
I think it is very good for the money.

Condemned is super freaky and I have yet to play it to the end. I love it as a game though, really engrossing.

Kameo I have also yet to finish - but so far so good.

I wish I had waited longer before buying more games - they can be picked up second hand so cheaply.

I personally don't have too much of a problem with it, if a game comes out I want I will buy it.

I remember buying games for £50/£60 on the Snes/Nintendo64 and thats when £50 was a lot of money!

Indeed. It's not as cheap in America for games/DVD's etc.. as everyone is led to believe. The pay around the same as us.

that is only because pay rates are not economically equivicable to ours. If we were able to buy there and magically ship them here wit would be cheaper. Alas Magical shipping has been put on the backburner by world governments, they believe it could cause economic collapse.

If you look about properly you can pick games up for £22...

...got graw last week for that figure, brand new sealed... sold it this week for £37 on epay coz i dont like it
