I seem to travel a fair bit now and having gone through the local market suitcases, they seem to last two trips then selfdestruct / break i need a better one.

I thought Samsonite, but looking around im told they are no more and just the badge has been sold off to 3rd rate companies.. So not wanting to waste £200 on something that isnt going to last...

What do others here use? any good sturdy brands i should look out for? Nothing big, 15-20KG max carry load.

Eagle Creek do great bags. Their ES system of bags have a "No Matter What" Warranty -

No Matter What Damage Repair Policy
In late 2004 Eagle Creek introduced an exclusive new line of luggage called the Exploration Systems or ES. We are so confident in the engineering and durability of these products that we have added a Damage Repair clause to our existing Lifetime Warranty. This policy states that all Exploration Systems luggage products are covered by a no-matter-what-policy: If your luggage is ever damaged (even by the airlines) we'll repair or replace it free of charge - no matter what. Keep in mind this is a damage repair policy, not a theft or loss policy

Ok, they are not hard cases but, if you just need a tough case and you are not simply going for a hard case so that it lasts, then think of these.

Try this one if you want something that can be used as carry on as well (they do bigger sizes) - Eagle Creek Tarmac20

I have the Tarmac25 and have used it to travel on numerous occasions over the past 4-ish years and its still in the same condition as I bought it. This is even after I witnessed it falling off the luggage trailer onto the apron of the airfield and rolling along the ground (I bought a very distinctive colour to help find it) - everything inside was still unharmed.

Sure, they are pricey compared to other cases of the same size but its the only case I will ever need to buy as the manufacturer will repair/replace it for free if it breaks. The over engineering of all parts needs to be seen to be believed :)

We use pelicaes for work, deploying equipment in harsh conditions (liverpool etc) and they are rather tough. They do look like they contain a bomb tho.

I wouldn't buy any hard case. Falling off a baggage dolly is nothing compared to how it'll get handled by the loaders.
If and when I had to move any bags as a Dispatcher, the heavier it was, the harder it got thrown!

It was always the hard cases that broke open or cheaper cases with poor zips.
