From the beginning: I have 2x Raptors in RAID 0 running Vista and XP on serperate partitions. They've been running fine for weeks now.
So I get my Samsung 400gb 8mb to use as extra storage drive around 1 week ago, install it and everything seems fine. I transfer all my media, around 50gb's of my movies and music to it, all goes fine (though maybe slow?, ~10mbps) .
Today I tried to copy a 1gb file to it and it got stuck on the progress bar, had to end task. So I try a 1mb file and it worked, tried a 50mb file and it made a *clunking*, would spin up for 1/2 a sec, then clunk, then repeat. A few seconds later.. "Windows couldn't save data after hard disk failure" and its gone forever! PC would only boot to windows loading screen without taking the drive out.
So what the hell! where did I do wrong? Here's how I installed it... Used a sata power connector, the third of a chain of 3 (first 2 connected to RAID drives). Should I have used its own sata power cable? surely thats what the 3 sata power connector is for?. Installed sata connector to mobo, showed in bios, not my computer, so had to format it to NTSC in manage disk windows application, after that it showed in both Vista and XP. O and I used a static wrist band, touching case with hands and turning off ac, pressing power button to discharge, straight out of ESD bag into PC, so I assume it wasn't static.
