Hard Disk error

I recently reformatted and re-installed as I do every so often, I'm currently running a win xp install and have just installed partition magic so i can change the partitions for vista and suse 11. But my hard disk comes up as BAD in partition magic, I also tried to the partitioning tools on the Linux disks but they say the same, is there and way of fixing this without having to reformat the entire disk again?

I mostly just ignored it, it kept saying my disks were bad any time I used XP/Vista partition manager to do anything with them and was generally too much hassle for me to be bothered with.
