Hard drive benchmark

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get to the bottom of why a laptop of mine is so incredibly slow! It's nothing special but it is useful for when I go away but just lately its got unbearably slow...

Here is a shot of a benchmark I just ran from a livecd:



Is it good/bad? I'm guessing its not going to be amazing because the laptop's about 6 years old

I ran a health check as well, that found 4 bad sectors. Time to upgrade?

According to the specs it's a SATA I 5,400RPM drive with a measly 8MB cache so that would explain the performance you're seeing. In terms of replacing it, if the chipset on your laptop doesn't support SATA II then you're not going to see a massive improvement anyway. I would definitely get your data backed up bearing in mind the bad sectors either way.
