Hard drive cache?

Hi guys, I'm soon to be purchasing the components for my first build and was wondering if you guys could recommend a Hard drive for me. I'm very new to pc building and have a few questions aswell.

Firstly my spec is;
Amd Phenom II 965BE @ 3.4ghz
Asus Crosshair III formula 790fx
4gb Corsair RAM
Ati Radeon 5770
etc etc

I'm not looking for anything too pricey, and would ideally like to keep the price below £70 if possible. So no raptors or SSd's by the look of it but would like whatever you recommend as a good overall hddrive with between 500gb and 1tb overall space. I will be using the drive for everything, including gaming and mass storage.

Also, am a little confused as to the usefulness of 'cache' in such drives. Some people seem insistent that having more cache means nothing whilst others seem to opt for whatever drive has 32mb cache+ eveytime, so 'does cache matter?' would be my question.

thanks a lot for the help. it will be much appreciated.

The biggest differences in performance were from 2 to 8MB. I think they mostly have 16/32MB now; even for the OS drive I'm not sure between them it makes any difference.

While certain benchmarks can detect some difference in speed for drives with different size cache in real world you won't notice any difference. Personally i wouldn't worry about the cache size and go for the the Samsung SpinPoint as it very good drive.
