HI Everyone,

I have a strange problem I have three hard drives in my computer using Windows XP, (Asus AV333), two run off the main IDE channel no problem and a third run on the Raid, I used to have an old 60GB Maxtor drive running off the raid and never had a problem. But recently I put a 300GB Maxtor in and it's causing all sorts of weird problems. (The Maxtor was from another computer and had been running fine for nearly two years.).

Although I can access data on the 300GB drive, sometimes everything will just ground to halt, and accessing files will get stuck for a few seconds at a time. The mouse will freeze then everything will go back to normal. Event Viewer sometimes comes up with errors that refer to a fast track error, or MFT error.

During the time this has been happening no data has ever been corrupted and no SMART errors have ouccoured. Sometimes it get's so bad that you unable to even access the drive, but after restarting everything is working again.

Also when I first choose the drive using Windows Explorer, it may take 4 or 5 minutes before a folder directory appears.

Anyway have any ideas I could try.

note: I suspect the motherboard raid controller is faulty (I have tried other hard disks on the raid which also fail). Also they fail if I use an external PCI card for the hard disks. Only the main IDE channels work, and I've used all of them up!

Thanks
