hard drive choices

Building a new i7 based system and pondering the hard drive setup.

Ive got 2 x 74gb raptors in my old system which will be going into the new one. Going to get 1 or 2 1tb drive for storage. Would a SSD drive be better than the 2 raptors for my boot drive or would the real world difference not be that noticable?

If you already have 2 raptors I wouldn't bother with SSD yet, as it will be expensive. Yes it'll be quick, but depending on how much money you've got / want to splash, I'd certainly hold fire and keep the Raptors. If you were starting from scratch if might be a different story, but I still won't trust SSDs until the bad prices and bad write degredation stories have sorted themselves out.

had a feeling this would be the case, would be looking at the OCZ ones if anything

Agreed.

Wait and see what OCZ v3 brings or, if you can't wait, at least get a RAID card with onboard memory. That sorts out the slow writes, but costs another ~ £130.

think ill hang on for now and stick with the raptors.
