Hard Drive connections ?

Hi All I have a seagate 500g hard drive and want to know how many leads that i need to connected it to the unit ? there is a SATA Data & SATA Power connections on the back ,are both these used ? sorry if it sounds thick ,but i,m a new user of SATA II, I was on IDE for years ! thanks

you need to connect both SATA power and SATA data for the drive to function
just make sure you dont connect molex AND sata power at the same time(older sata drives had a choice of using either molex or sata power connections)
