A few weeks ago my 1TB Spinpoint started to randomly disappear from My Computer, Device Manager etc. I presumed it was failed so bought a 2TB replacement.

When it came to transferring my files I tried to image them over, putting my 1TB in a USB dock (strangely enough it works fine when in the dock) but for some reason it just wasn't having it, so I had to manually copy and paste.

Now a few days later having, copied and pasted everything over, and I'm having the same problem with my 2TB

I have an idea what the problem could be, as it seemed to first occur when I changed my PC case to a smaller, less ventilated one (V1000 to A05), it could be a heat issue - possibly?

theres an option in bios to set the hdd delay , i had a pc doing this, the delay was set to 0 , once i changed it to 3 seconds it was fine.
...it was an old drive though.

Tried a different SATA port?

Yes, I've tried another Sata port and no luck :(.

I'm running Windows 7 on an Asus PW5 DH Deluxe if that makes any difference to anyone.

I think I'm going to buy a new motherboard but dont want to if I dont have to...

This is the exact reason I stick to Western Digital - im sorry guys but Samsung have not got the same build quality. It sounds like the controller chip has went up the left and thus the BIOS cannot read it. Western Digital all the way until SSD's become feasible to buy. Samsung are a great brand and I have many of their products.... just not HDD's. Too many problems.... excessive noise, not being detected etc. Western Digital are the daddy's of the HDD world imo of course.

Now the computer is getting stuck at POST when it comes to detecting the drive .

If it was the drive itself surely it wouldnt work in the usb docking station?
