Hard drive dissapeared when connecting mouse

For the third time now, when swapping my new Razer Mamba mouse from wired to wireless, my external USB hard drive has vanished from my computer. It is still turned on and vista makes the connected/disconnected sound when you turn it on and off but doesn't reappear in my computer. It does come back if I restart/log out and in but it shouldn't do this. Any ideas?

I've had this problem too. For me it turned out that my motherboard was faulty. Each time i unplugged something, other usb stuff would stop working and i have to unplug and plug them again

They are both connected using the same USB hub, might that cause an issue?

When you say hub is it an external one or the normal motherboard USB hub?

External 4 port one, had it a few years with no problem. But even after the drive dissapears, if i connect is to any other port on the motherboard it still won't re-appear until I reboot.

Then it's a problem with the hub... is it powered or unpowered?
