hi, my pc froze and I restarted it to get SMART (on my dfi nf4) reporting my hard drive had failed, or is about to. I reset it again and it was correct, no windows post, and upon another reset it came up with the menu about windows in safe mode etc etc, and whatever option I chose stil no boot into XP. I tried the hard drive in my external caddy on my laptop aswel but the hard drive is dead, even though it makes the beep-beep XP noise happen (you know the one where you add a plug and play device like a usb stick). i dropped the hard drive from a hight of 30cm to see if the arm was stuck, then put the hard drive in my home freezer to contract all the bits of metal to see if that helped but it stil won't work. Oh well was only a 40gig WD IDE, but a hard drive shoudl fail after 3/4 years, and this drive had my windows set up with my 50hour oblivion save on  just wondering what every1s thoughs are on this

well i found a 5400rpm 13gig hard drive to have xp on again, and it is SLOW. took over an hour to install the add-on to bf2 including the update. So I need a new hard drive for windows. I will still use my 250gig IDE ina caddy for films, game images etc, and will still use the internal 250gig IDE for installed games.

I am after a 7200rpm sata2 hard drive, which sort would you all recommend?? I would like a quiet drive but that isn't important if one stands out from the others
