Hard drive failure? :(

I've got some major problems here. Recently, I got some bad sectors on my hard drive and also some clicking. Ran chkdsk /p /f and it fixed some errors. Kaspersky stopped working due to corrupt licence files so I uninstalled it. But then I couldn't reboot into windows. I get the starting windows screen, but then it goes to bsod with this error:

Unmountable_boot_volume

I have a Hiren's boot cd if that helps. Not sure what to do. Bootfix? Or is that risky? Hard drive has important data on it.

Thanks,

Jon

Have you tried a different SATA port and a different SATA data cable?

What motherboard do you have and what SATA port is the drive connected to?

I plugged it into another pc but using the same cable. It saw a drive but couldn't display the size or it's data. I think it said ir was unformatted. That was in win xp.

I ran a sector analysis tool and it showed bad sectors at the start of the disk.

Think the motherboard is ASIs PK5. Plugged in the first free port I believe.

I'm afraid I'm out of my depth as far as HDD recovery is concerned so hopefully someone will come along with suggestions other than my basic ideas.

Good luck.
