Hard drive for a SKY+ Box

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this or Home Cinema & Hi-Fi.

I need a new hard drive for a SKY+ Pace 3100, any recommendations???

I upgraded a mates with a Seagate 250Gb 16mb cache 7200.10 drive. and used copy+ : http://www.skycopyplus.co.uk/ to copy.

Ideally either a proper WD AV drive or a GreenPower does the job nicely.

I know I'm thinking of upgrading my Pace 3100 but I'm not sure what drive is the best, I put a WD 80Gig drive I had lying aroud the house in and the fan kept running all the time, I'm afraid it's a bit of a minefield.

The general consensus is that the ideal HDD to go for runs at 5400rpm, cache shouldn’t be a concern. The majority of successful upgrades have been done with primarily Maxtor drives but also Samsung. More recently 7200rpm drives have been shipping in new boxes from Sky, and so some 7200rpm drives have been used for upgrades also.

Please note that not every make or model of HDD works in a Sky+ box, probably due to timing differences and feature sets provided by the different drive manufacturers. Some drives will work well in some makes/models of Sky+ box, whilst giving unreliable recording in others. It is therefore highly recommended to obtain a drive that has been tried and tested for your particular make and model of box. That’s not to say that an untested drive will definitely not work, just that you will be taking a chance by ordering one and just expecting it to work flawlessly.

I gather its a bit of a mine field (check out the digitalspy forum http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/index.php) hence my initial question "I need a new hard drive for a SKY+ Pace 3100, any recommendations"

I was hoping that a few members of this forum would have already updated a Pace 3100 and found the good and the bad etc.

Well nevermind i actually did one? and it works fine? guess i'm not a member whos updated a pace 3100 :rolleyes:
