Hi guys, got the rage today and hit my laptop so hard my hand is still throbbing! Anyhow, since then my computer wont boot at all and the hard drive makes a really loud clunking sound. Have i broke it, i assume so. If so will any of the data on it be recoverable?

Thanks in advance

It will be difficult to recover any data. Specifically it will be very expensive and has a low probability of complete success. The head will have hit the disk while it was spinning, gauged into it and torn itself apart. This is why you don't hit laptops.

The file you were working on is dead and gone. Realistically so is everything else on the drive. Hard drive dead.

Next up, if the laptop isn't posting (nothing on the screen at all), you've damaged more than just the hard drive. Can't tell you what else is dead without seeing it in person. Most likely you're buying a new laptop.

Only person I've ever met who has done this was a schoolkid who just wasn't very bright. He was fortunate and only needed a new hard drive.
