hard drive going wonk- advice please

pri master (maxtor Sata) ya51eo -6y12omo
ultra dma mode- 5 smart capable and status ok

pri slave (maxtor Sata) ya51eo - 6y12omo
ultra dma mode- 5 smart capable and status -BAD.

i self-built my pc 5-6 years ago.
mobo is Asus p4800 with intel p4 2.8 2 gig ram.

when i built my pc i split my 2x h/drives into 5/6 drives, now one of them is going wonky- 2 hours to burn 2 gig dvd is not right.
now, can help anyone help me work out which is the wonky h/drive And can i buy a New replacement, which given my efforts to buy a psu could be a problem ?

btw Drivehealth 2.0 trial version- gives TEC of h/drives as
10/12/08 and
21/08/98

advice welcomed.

use hdtune on it to find out which one is bad

i don't trust maxtor's as far as I can throw myself, backup backup!

i'd replace them both tbh

hdtune says one of the drive's- *run out cancel* has failed.

as i've not kept up with all things pc, will sata 2 drives work on my now ancient pc ?

If its the ASUS SKT-478 P4P800 it looks like it has 2xSata 150 ports in there. You may have to jumper the drive to restrict it, but it should work.

did a quick scan on the dodgy drive- took over 20 mins and came up with nowt.
done the quick scan on the good drive and it was done in under 30 secs.
