i store lots of stuff on my computer around 12 tb at the moment..

i cant afford to back it all up and tonight lost another hard drive.. is there anyway of recovering the data without huge expense..or any way to tell its about to fail...

has it mechanically failed or do you think the boot sector has just corrupted?

If it's the boot record, try using testdisk. I had a drive that corrupted but I was able to use this dos like program to browse the files on the drive and copy them over. I couldn't repair the boot sector but it allowed me to save files I needed and format the drive.

The software is open source, so free to use and no junk adware etc.

oh well, worth a try. Bad luck.

I guess you could just try the drive in another sata port with a different sata cable just to make sure (but you've probably already done that).

Also, try changing the power cable, again just to make sure.
