Hard drive information retrieval problem

Hi,
Ive been asked to get some information off of a hard drive but im having problems. Ive done this sort of thing before and it's been no problem. Anyway the problem that im having is that i can't explore the hard drive. It's in my device manager but i can't find it in 'my computer'. Ive taken the lil black thing off the back of the hard drive that would normally allow me to explore it but it's still not having it.
Im running vista, any help would be most appreciated.

Tried different IDE/Sata ports on motherboard?

It's an IDE and i only have the one, my DvD drive works in it perfectly and so do my other IDE hard drives just not this one :\

I am not sure then mate? I once had the same problem and i took my hdd out of my external enclosure popped the one which my computer wouldnt take and it worked fine so if possible try that.

Unfortunatly i don't have anything like that to try. I did ask my house mate because he used to have an external HDD but it never had an IDE plug in the enclosure, bad times

Download and burn a copy of KNOPPIX, its a Live CD Operating System, absolutely fantastic for retrieving stuff off corrupted disks! IMHO!
