Hard drive is.. Loud?

Hey guys abit of advice really when my hard drives meant to be idle.. IE: Im not even doing anything it sounds like its grinding.. Is this a sign i should be looking at? I mean i don't even have any data on it! Its all on my external HDD. Any advice on how to check if its gona die on me? Its a Hitachi Deskstar 7200rpm 320GB and its on 5500 hours. Is all i know
 
Thanks :D Confidence when you need it most and have no spares laying about nd HDD prices are STUPID

best to either borrow a external drive and back up your work/stuff to be safe. I'd go with it dying too, although friendsd who have experienced this before have re-installed windows and solved the problem (for them at least lol)
 
Recently reinstalled windows to try combat it, Hence why no data is on the drive :) Its all backed up safely on a external drive and a laptop but ill test it now :)

Erm.. Im stuck :/

Might just buy a ssd and stick this as a storage drive temp.. I don't even use it much due to work but when home i dnt wana have to mess with it
