Hi guys

A lot of you helped me out when my pc broke. Turned out to be the mobo. Santa brought a new mobo, 3570k i5 and a whisper quiet psu!

However, whilst my pc is functional again, the power failure took all 3 of my hard drives down. Basically its saying its a raw file system now rather than an ntfs one.

Im currently running testdisk but in all honesty dont have a clue what im doing...

I wiped my ssd as it was probably due a fresh boot anyway. Im running windows 7.

Also im doing this all by phone as openreach have yet to spend 5 mins activating my line...

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

on a power surge block, if used, how can the psu take the hard drives down?

and if not used, well can't really give any reasons not to use a surge block, and too late now anyway.

so your after a recovery program then? for data?

is that what your asking?

Sorry my mobo blew which knocked my pcs power out. Ive got surge extension sockets.

Yeah basically im trying to recover my hdds. Theyre all in a raw format. Im using testdisk but not really sure how to recover it. Its just analysing it at the mo.

First thing I would do is download the hard disk manufacturers test apps from their website (usually a bootable cd image). Easier if your drives are all the same make.

Run the tests on the drives (usually defaults to read only test, but check to make sure) which will provide details of any potentional hardware problems with the drives caused by the power problems.

If they all check out then likely to be a file system corruption or admin issue nd hopefully recoverable if not too bad.

Try the hardware tests firsts to at least make sure the disks are physically ok.
