Hello all,

I've got a 3Tb drive that keeps disappearing from My Computer. I can find it using Disk Management and it's showing as 2048GB GPT Protective Partition and 746.49GB Unallocated. If I switch it to offline and then back online then it shows up the full 2794GB NTFS. It seems to do those almost daily... I've tried reformatting (full and quick) but no luck.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Jed

I've done the Error Checking through Windows (10) and it's fine. Can you recommend any other software checker? Ideally that's free :)

I've run HDDScan SMART and showing UltraDMA CRC Errors. Not sure what this is. Everything else is green. I'm going to run some other tests

I'd try a new cable, not cheap eBay tat, and a different port. Check out the motherboard manual to see if it's a native port, some ports may be serviced by a third party chipset.

delete the disk and when you initialise it, do it as as a gpt disk instead of mbr and that should allow you access to the full storage space
