Do OcUK sell those hard drive enclosures that you fit your own hard drive into and plug into the TV so you can watch films from it, also comes with a remote control. I have seen them else where but would like to nip down to OcUK and give them my money.

Isn't that a PC?
To my knowledge, you'd need something to decode and output a video signal. A hard drive box on it's own won't do that too well.

Recently (last year or so) came out with a 'tv box' that has processing capability and hardware codecs for mp4. Just plug in a 3.5in drive and off u go. Very cool. Not too expensive in Malaysia. Around £40 if i remember correctly ;)

I have seen one on a competitors website, plays Mpeg4, DivX and XviD but you have to fit your own 2.5" hard drive. You plug in the video connector and audio connectors (don't think it supports 5.1) and use the remote to control it. They are about £40. Just wondered if OcUK sell them as I only live 5 mins away and rather buy from them than someone else.

Pixel Magic sell such a device - the MB100. They also sell an audiophile version - the MB200.
I'm thinking about buying the MB200. I had a quick demo yesterday, comparing playback of .wav files with the original CD. The rest of the equipment used was an Arcam Solo, and Quad 11L speakers. As the music being played wasn't to my taste, all I can say is that there was very little difference between the two.

I'm going back next week for a proper demo, taking some CDs and.wavs of my own. I also hope to compare it to a more expensive CD player.

The Pixel Magic devices aren't cheap - £300 and £370.

You could consider a wireless laptop. Preferrably one with a DVI/HDMI output.
The beauty is their light quiet, easily hidden and you can easily use MCE or alternatives and full remote control like any full blown HTPC. You of course can then link this via network to any other PC in the house etc.

The only major drawback is getting one thats affordable and powerfull enough to play full HD with no hiccups but it is an alternative option.

I use mine to stream all my music to my X360 via wireless with no problems and of course you get all the other benifits of a portable/laptop computer something a £300 media control box will not offer.

MCE is just a little too clumsy and slow for my liking but many people use a X360 to do what your saying with specialist PC software that converts files in realtime to play via your X360.
