Maxtor 250gb sata about 18 months old.

I am continually getting all sorts of errors.

IE/FF/MSN/WMP will randomly get a 'has got a problem and needs to close' error message thing, very frequently

random BSOD causing restarts

when trying to play cs online, getting 'bad files' or 'file missing' when connecting to servers

This is all AFTER a clean re-install of windows

also...

when i was reinstalling windows, i tried to install it on my normal windows partition, but it FAILED when formatting, so i had to install on another partition which i didnt bother formatting first.

do i need a new HD or is it something else?

and what can i use to check if the HD is ok or not?

Are there any errors in the event viewer that point to your hard drive?

Start>Run>eventvwr>system
there are about 80 errors there from the last 4 days or so when i resintalled windows, and about 50 'warnings' how do i know which point to my HD?

under 'source' the errors range from:

Dhcp, System Error, Service Controle Manager, ntfs, browser,sr,DCOM,setup

hmm there are 2 ntfs ones, which both say:
The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume C:

You could try giving it a low level format with PowerMax. THat might helps things?
i looked at that powermax thing but seems you need to create a floppy disk?
