right guys any idea why a bois will not detect a ide hardrive....The drive was working before i took it out of one system, then went to put it in another and it won't detect it in another, pretty important that i get the drive working as i have some very important stuff backed up on it !!!!

Any questions then ask away, tried different jumper settings etc, but to no avail !

Usually a case of the control board is shot, maybe ESD killed it in removal/refitting. The data is all present on the disk but you may need to source a control board to fit and try to get the data back. This is worst case scenario though, so keep trying new cables etc.

So you've tried all jumper settings available? Ensure your IDE cable is inputted correctly and the right way... Ensure drive detection are set as auto in the BIOS. If that fails, try booting with just that single IDE device and see if the BIOS detects it.

Hi there, old thread I know.

I received my Samsung 1tb f1 hdd today and the IDE Auto Detection cannot find my new F1 hdd.
Its not displayed on My Computer, but its displayed on Device Manager...

My PC is ADVENT 3217, its over 5 years old, its main hdd is IDE 80gb. The new Samsung F1 (SATA) is just for more space, no raid or anything special.

Im a nooby so I dont understand what the control board is and also the jumper settings...??

Thanks

BON

Right click on "My computer" and click manage. You will need to initialize the drive in there and set up a partition etc..

Your "To-build spec" looks dated ;)
