Hard drive not showing up

Hi there, my new pc came through yesterday. It has 2 hard drives, one is a SSD for windows and a few games with the other being a 500gb hard drive.

The 500 gb hard drive is not showing up under the disk drives menu therefore stopping me from using it. However, when I bring up the device manager both hard drives are shown as working properly;

Samsung SSD 840 series ATA device
ST500DM002-1BD142 ATA device

I was wondering if anyone could help me? I am assuming that both drives are connected properly or they wouldn't show up on this list.

If you go to Disk Managemet, Right Click on My Computer > Manage > Disk Management, can you see it?

Sounds like it needs to have an active partition before you can use it.

If the HDD is showing under device manager then it is connected properly.

I'm assuming you are running Windows 8, which i haven't used, however, if you can navigate to computer management that should sort you out.

In 7 the path is Start > Control Panel > System & Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. In there, in the left panel, click Disk Management. It should show you your C: drive (your SSD) and the other drive. You may need to format it in there so that Windows is able to use the space. Right click the drive in Disk Management for the options (i hope it is something similar in Windows 8, if that's what you are running).

EDIT: beaten to it, damn my slow typing lol.

You need to go to Disk Management, right click the drive in the bottom part of the screen and press 'Create Simple Volume' (or it was something along those lines, I can't remember).

Thanks for your help mate, managed to get it sorted. Had to format it now i can see it on my computer list :) Thanks again
