Hard drive not showing

Just installing a new WD Caviar Black 500 GB I have tried it in two pc's it is not showing up in the bios or in windows am I missing something is this an RMA. :confused:

Have you formatted it ?
Go to start, then control panel, then administrative tools then computer management.
Under storage you will find disk management...
I am sure there is an easy way to get there, but this works..!

I had thought of that its not found in disk management thats what's throwing me.

Its not showing in the BIOS or disk management, have you checked the cables you are using, other than that it sounds like a DOA

Yes checked cables with another drive that drive was picked up.
I don't need to use jumpers on a sata drive do I? Clutching at straws I know

Sorry if I sounded like I was treating you like a fool - not intentional, but as I am a total beginner I tend to assume others might know as little as me...
As trackrat says - it might be a dud..

There are no jumpers for SATA drives, so RMA it.
