My samsung f1 was working properly.

then i decided to tidy up my case and when i was done i accidentally put the sata channels not in the same order as they were before.

now the hard disk only sees 35MBs, both in bios and windows

is there any hope for me and the data?

I know! Upon booting into windows there was something about detecting new hard drives, which clearly shouldnt have happened, since then the drive is unusable.

are there any master/salve settings on sata disks that could have casued this?

and why is the bios no longer recognising it as a 1 TB hard disk? it shows up as a SCSI device now

:(

SATA does not have Master or Slaves and only jumpers are for SATA150 or 300.

I doubt you moved a jumpers position bumping the HDD.

I would unplug both ends of the Cable, then reset bios completely without any power lead and battery removed.

Then plug cable back in just to make sure its in 100%, boot up,set up bios again and see if HDD appears.

I find it strange it sees your HDD but only 38MB as you put it.

Did not work... Formatting doesnt work either...

its as if the hard disk is dead :(

i took it out and it looks to be fine, there are no signs that would indicate it was damaged (and it shouldnt be damaged in the first place!)

anyone had any other tips i should try or should i return it? its less than 21 days since i got the drive

which mobo and which chipset do you use - Intel or AMD? also I suggest you need to update latest BIOS to support 1TB hard drive - Ive updated my Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 into F8 for support 2 cards, 1TB hard drives.. SATA drive dont use master or slave as it only one SATA cable from HDD to mobo as it detect by BIOS itself.

Hi there. I have a very similar problem. I received my nice new Samsung F1 1TB drive today and installed it into my pc. My drive only shows up as 35Mb too in the bios and windows (vista 64 ultimate).

I have tried it on different sata cables and channels and checked the jumpers on the drive (no jumpers).

I have a Gigabyte DS4 motherboard. My other hard drive (seagate barracuda 320Gb) works fine.

Any ideas so me and trunks can get this fixed ?

Was it like that out of the box for you?

i have initiated an RMA, they will collect the drive from me on monday. I have lost about 180GBs of stuff...

Yes my drive is brand new.

I will initiate rma too..

I was initially thinking that it may be a compatibility issue with the Gigabyte motherboards. However, i have tried it in a few other machines today and they are all showing as 32Mb

It seems that it is showing the cache as the drive size.
