Hard drive on a network?

Hi all with have a few pc's around the house, Im thinking of trying to get an external hard drive plugged into my router so that we can all use the files and other things on the drive.
Now im unsure on how to do all this, Can you get a drive that plugs into my router or is it more complicated than that?

You're after a NAS - Network Attached Storage.

OcUK will either sell you an enclosure to put an existing drive in, or a complete unit.
