Hi people,

Its going to be a bit hard to explain but I just wanted to see what your opinions are on this.
My pc isnt the slowest/worst in the world (see spec below) but it is beginning to annoy me on how long it takes to boot and then how long it is I can open a file/internet/folder/outlook etc after booting.
And then when I can get on the internet I can hear my hard drive clicking away loudly for about 20 seconds as I go onto another webpage and then it stops then the webpage opens.
Ive tried everything ccleaner, defrag, error check and nothing seems to make it run better?
Once its up and running for a while it seems to run ok?

My spec is:
C2D E6600 627 B stepping
Abit A9 Quad motherboard
2GB Gskill 6400HZ
Windows XP Home

Thanks

John

the clicking sound is usually one of the heads getting stuck,

at boot its very file intensive, do you hear the click on boot?

could be you just need to defrag/clean some stuff up :)

try running HDD speed tests, and post results.

I dont know what make it? I cant remember and id have to take it apart to find out.
And yes it does click a lot on boot.
Ive run some tests on it and this is what ive found!

I cant see anything out of the ordinary?

Google that code in the top left of HD tune. Looks like a Seagate model code to me.

Download 'Ultimate Boot Disc' it's got diagnostic tools from all the hard drive manufacturers and quite a few other handy bits and bobs.

Yes, it looks like a Seagate Drive from the model number. My advice would be to backup all important data on the drive, then go to the seagate website, download the latest version of Seatools for DOS and test the drive using both the short and long tests. Note down any error codes you get and assuming the drive doesn't pass, submit an RMA.
