Can someone interpret these hdtune results for me, httune says the health status is ok, but why is the reallocated sector count highlighted? I've ran the manufactures software and it fails the test, and seatools also gives 13 errors, hdtune shows up a few red blocks on the health test too. The laptop is less than 2 years old but it wouldn't suprise me considering it bought from you know where.

Surely somone must know?

The general advice seems to be that as long as the "reallocated" and "pending" sector counts are not rising on an ongoing basis, then you should be fine. Google has lots of links to lets of threads. :)

Might also be worth running a disk vendor specific tool on the drive as a second check.

Still, make sure you've got everything important backed up just in case (which of course you'd do anyway.)

It seems unlikely - that's a hell of a lot of reallocations. IMO if it's showing up red sectors in the health check, you should RMA it, just as long as it's still within warranty (normally 3 years).

The red sectors aren't showing up now I've zeroed and reformatted it, since zeroing the drive writes to all sectors of the hdd is it not possible that the hard drive found loads of other damaged sectors and reallocated them hence the large increase?

That would make sense. However with that number of reallocated sectors I think I'd RMA it regardless of whether the number's increasing. But if you do, I suggest ringing them up to confirm that reallocated sectors is grounds for RMA.

If it fails the manufacturer's diagnostic, RMA it! You can get a nice shiny (probably refurbished) one.

They say the "generic" SMART software (hdtune, speedfan...) are not reliable, as manufacturers use different smart ID's/values/scaling differently. I wouldn't believe what hdtune is telling you :)

True.
