Hi , I have been trying to install Windows XP on a laptop hard drive. I started by formatting the drive via my desktop machine and connecting the laptop drive via an icybox adapter.

I managed to boot from CD and copy over windows files , however on restart before Windows goes into it's installation phase I recieved the following error ON A BLUE SCREEN :

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage etc"
"Check for viruses on the disk and that it is configured and terminated properly etc"

"tech info*
***STOP:0X00000007B , 0XC0000034 , 0X00000000 , 0X000000000

anyone know what could have gone wrong ? I have re-formatted , tried the install again but with the same blue screen and message. I checked the disk for errors using windows disk checker but still no joy.

It might be the SATA operation in the BIOS causing this if it is a newish laptop. If its set to AHCI you can change it to ATA and it usually resolves this.

If you need to use AHCI you should be able to slipstream the drivers to the XP CD.

Cheers,

Gordon
