Hard Drive partitions and sizes ???

Hi All...

Over the last couple of years I have messed around with many hard drive partition setups, but I still haven't found one that I really like.

How many partitions should I set up and what sizes should they be to work the best :confused:

( performance wise ).

I'm running 2 x 200gb Seagate Barracudas 7200.8 in Raid0 with a third as a backup drive in my latest build.

All suggestions welcome...

Im sure i read somewhere, the more Partitions you have can slow down the system. I cant find the article, but im pretty sure this is true.

Personally, if i had the setup you do i would have maybe a 30-50gb partition for my C drive, programs and the rest. Then the 170-150gb left as 1 partition. The other 200gb would be left unpartitioned for me.

agree with the above poster, seems like the best way. if you need it more "partitioned" use folders.

Oops, i have an 80gb hard drive in 2 partitions and a 250gb drive in 10 partitions. :confused:

If i saw the article the above mentions i might merge a few gaming ones, if it was proved too many slowed the system down.
Esp as i'm going to replace the 80Gb Seagate with a 320Gb :rolleyes:

Thanks for input.

I think I'll try

35 - 40gb for Windows XP and essential drivers.

350gb for apps and games

Then I'll see what I think after a month or so.
