Hey guyz,

I have 2 hard drives for my PC. first is the 500gb Seagate 7200.10 and the other is the 1TB Seagate 7200.11. I want to format my PC. I have too many partitions and want to reduce them. Can i know the best partitions i can use and what sizes they should be?

At the moment i have 5 partitions. 2 from the 500 gb and 3 from the 1tb. They are a lot to handle. I have 4 gigs of ram. check the sysem config in my sig.

Do too many partitions slow down the processing?

Would appreciate the help. Thanx.

personally, I think two partitions is plenty..

C:\ - Windows and Core apps, i set mine to ~50-60gb, has plenty of space to breath and I never get near it...

D:\ - Games and my Steam folder, and these folders.. D:\Music, D:\Pictures, D:\Videos, D:\Downloads

I map the my documents music etc to these folders

I also take a weekly/monthly image of the C drive and store it in D:\Acronis\ should I need to restore the C drive

I then have multiple 1tb external drives for keeping 1:1 backups of the following folders
D:\Music
D:\Photos
D:\Videos
D:\Steam

So u say no partitons. I should use my drives as wholes. What about paging. Is it useful and which drive should i use for paging and for the OS.

Jesus, your signature is huge!

There's no need for putting pagefiles on different drives with modern OS's and HDDs. The performance benefit is negligible at best.

Bledd's setup is exactly the same as mine, and works a treat :)

Thanx. What if i want to dual boot Win 7 and vista. Should i use the same drive but different partitons for both. Or should i install one OS on each drive.
