weird one this

a friend of mine has just built a new pc using Q6600, P5K Mobo and 2 x 320gb seagate SATA II hard drives.

He gets a windows performance score of 5.5 for the hard drives

my pc, X2-3800, NF4 and 2 x 250gb Maxtor diamond Max drives gets a hard drive performance score of 5.8!

What gives, i thought SATA drives were meant to be faster?

On these results alone i have ordered components for my new pc Abit IP35 Pro, E6750, 8800GT, P182SE case etc, but i decided to keep my hard drives and save myself a little money for now (mainly to keep wifey happy) have i done the right thing.

1) The Vista perfomance indexes bear less than no resemblence to the relative performance of configurations.

2) How are your disks configured compared to your friend's disks?

as above, windows performance isnt a reliable comparison tool.

you should use a hard drive benchmark software if you want to see a more realistic comparison.
