Hard Drive Power Consumption - the same if internal or external?

just something ive wanted to know

will a 3.5" Green 2tb Western Digital Drive use the same amount of power if it was installed internally then if would fitted into a external usb caddy?

The drive itself will draw the same amount of power however the actual mains power usage will be higher than the difference in usage if the drive was internal. This is due to power needs of the SATA to USB interface and the extra transformer which will most likely be less efficient than a desktop PSU.
