Hi,

My computer crashed, and upon restart gave me the error message,:

"Disk read error occured. Press control+alt+delete to restart"

Pressed the buttons, restart takes me to same screen.

Tried inserting Windows disk, hit any key to boot from cd. Then all i get is blank screen. Put drive in another computer, can access it as a slave, ran chkdsk, all ran fine. Can access/move files.

Put back in other computer, will not boot, same error message.

Any ideas? Or do i just need to buy another one? (It's IDE drive, cable is fine).

Thanks

Two possibilities that I can think of:

- The MBR or bootsector is damaged. If you can get it to boot off the CD (unlikely I know, you already tried) you can run the recovery console and type "fixboot" and "fixmbr" to rewrite them.

- Your BIOS boot settings could have been messed up somehow. Check that it's still set to boot off your harddrive etc, and that it's still recognising it.

Ok, i'll try the second option...Though i'm fairly convinced the bios is finding the drive fine...

The first i've tried and failed numerous times, with the error i mentioned in my first post.

Thanks for help!
