Hey,
I was using my computer today, when all of a sudden the system froze, and then when restarted told me a windows file was missing or corrupted. I did the usual steps, thinking I could just reinstall windows and everything would be fine, but it got to the stage of selecting a drive and I was told my drive was unrecognised, or corrupted, and needed formatting.
I have no idea what to do, I've got a lot of emails, essays and suchlike that I can't afford to lose, so formatting is not an option at all. Can anyone recommend and hard drive recovery software that they've used and works and that can be run off a CD (no floppy drive!). I understand thats a lot to ask, and really I'll just settle for one of the two. Also, if anything can be done from the Xp Recovery Console that I don't know of (which is quite a bit I imagine) I'd appreciate any help there. So far all I've figured out is check disk, which tells me (helpfully) that I have one or more errors. Great stuff. Thanks a lot,
Screwi
