Hard Drive Problems - Drive Lettering

Hi

This is my first post using the Overclockers Forum, but i will explain my problem with my Samsung Hard Drive, Link Below

Right, i have two samsung Drives one samsung 750Gb drive and the other is the link above. Every time i boot my computer and look in my computer the first 750GB drive which is the one i boot from and which windows 7 is located. The other drive is not there at all.

I have to physically go into computer managment and i can see the drive in the computer managment section and the first drive. So i give the drive a letter say "k". Right the second drive will now show up in My computer. But when i restart the computer i have to do that whole process to access that second drive every time i restart.

What motherboard are they attached to?

Have you tried swapping the SATA cable?

Does the 1Tb drive show OK in the BIOS?
 
Checked BIOS

Right i have checked the BIOS and it says ok, i still cant figure out why it wont give it a drive letter. Maybe a peice of software might be able to resolve this issue

Anybody know the solution HELP

I mean when i give the drive any lettering at all, i can access the drive though my computer but when i restart the computer and log back in to windows the drive does not appear and i have to re give it a drive letter
 
Check the volume name, they might be the same.
Another thing you can do is update the drive firmware. You can get this from the manufacturer's site.
 
Mmm, an odd one. Does it do this for all drive letters, or have you only tried k?
Did I also spot Daemon Tools in the taskbar? That can do some odd stuff with reserving drive letters so you could try checking settings or temporarily uninstalling it to see. Otherwise I'd guess Windows has got itself in a twist somehow - it might be worth a look through the registry to see if there's anything odd (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices might be a place to start). Usual warnings on backing up the registry, not making changes, etc. apply!

Edit: another thought - are you logged in with admin rights?

This is a common problem with the 1TB F3's. They don't work with some SATA controllers properly. There should be a firmware update for these drives. Try googling this problem as I've seen it cropping up a few places. If not, you may need to return it.

Hi,

CHeers for all the replies and suggestion and responding to the second to last comment i have checked the registry and have found that the K: drive isn't listed like the other drive strange all the other drives are labelled like this \DosDevices\A: etc but not the K: volume name for some reason possible changing to a different volume label might resolve this issue.

Any additional thoughts are welcomed

swap them round.

you currently have Disk 0 (first disk) and Disk 1 (second disc)
according to your screenshot, your storage disc is your primary disc and your OS disc is set as second.

two ways to sort this, either swap over the sata cables so that the OS disc is plugged into SATA Port 0 and the other in port 1. (recommended)

alternatively, get into the bios and swap the disc priority.

then assign your drive letters again, cross your fingers, toes and p*bes and try again.

Finally managed to figure this one out, the problem was that for some reason disk 2, was hidden in windows, went through the DOS disk management and was then able to make it unhidden and it now gives the drive letter when i boot into windows,
