The likelyhood is yes however they could be using different drive.
I just cant see how an external drive would retail at less than the internal though as you have the extra manufacturing cost of enclosure, power adapater etc
yeah thats why i wanted to know cause i'm in the market for a new internal HDD and if they are the same i may as well get the external one, disassemble it and have a spare caddy!
it is possible to take a hard drive out of an enclosure and use it as an internal? right?
I've found that if a manufacture produces HDDs and they almost always use their own drives when releasing an external version. It'll be very odd to get that external drive and something other than a Hitachi drive inside.
As for taking it out of the case yes, it is possible but of course you will lose any warranty and so in this sense it might be worth while going for the internal unit and getting a caddy later if needed. I am sure you will not be pleased if 3 months down the line something went wrong with the drive.
