A couple of weeks ago my hard drive gave up and i ended up installing an older ATA drive using the connector on the cable going to the cd drive, and i'm sure this one is having trouble with lack of power every so often, as it click and forces the pc to re-boot.

So just a couple of questions if i may..

I've got two white power cables coming from the PSU one is split using a Y connector and going to the graphics card 6800GT and the other one is split and going to my cd drive and the older ATA drive, would this setup cause power problems for the HDD?

And also whats the benefits of having SATA ii over my older SATA drive? as i'm tempted to get this weeks special offer.

Thanks in advance.

Click? How pronounced is it?

Clicking hard-drives are usually on thier way out.

The way to test is to unplug anything from the PSU you dont require for a while, Floppy, CD-Drive etc. See if the same still occurs. HDDs dont require much draw, so I have my doubts about it being power related.

It's a noticable click, i've had my fair share of hard drive failures over the years so i'm 99% sure it's the drive, just wasn't sure if the power config might have speeded up the ware on the drive.

I'll only be able to unplug the cd drive but it's never been used at the time the pc has clicked and crashed, so i dont think it would be power related.
