Hard Drive Read Time.

Hi,

NOTE: dont want the answer here,l just for someone to point me in the right direction, as this is part of an assignment.

I have a disk drive spec with figures for rotational speed, seek time, secters per track,bytes per sector and sectors per cluster. i need to calculate the read time for an 8MB file when the storage is contagious and fragmented. I ahve searched everywhere for this and cant find anything, as i assume there is some sort of formula, method i need to use.

Again, i would just like someone to point me in the right direction.

The calculation is pretty much the same for both contigous and fragmented but for the latter you need to take into account the time taken to find each fragment. Then it should just be a case of calculating the rate at which data goes under the head.
