Hard drive *seems* ok, but transfers fall to 0.0kb/s, computer locks up

Hi,

When transferring data to a particular hard drive, the transfers fall to 0.0kb/s ("transfer A")

Moreover, if I am also doing transfers to other hard drives at the same time, they also go down to 0.0kb/s (transfer b). Similarly my web browser won't load anything any more, the computer completely locks up

If I cancel the original transfer (transfer A), everything is fine again.

If I do something like changing the drive letter on this hard drive, it takes forever to change, so there is definitely something up with this drive.

However, I have run smart scan on crystaldiskinfo/hdtune, and they don't report any errors

Any idea how I can diagnose and maybe fix the issue with this disk? If it was dying I would have thought that the above would have revealed something

Note that this is a storage drive, my OS drive is an SSD. Windows 10.

Thanks

event viewer -> system, any disk related errors?

I have been running a HDtune deep error scan for the past 4.5 hours

Damaged blocks 3.0%, it has found 76 errors. For example, "Error at 1256812 MB (LBA 2573..."

Checking event viewer, it shows loads of errors, source = disk. They all seem to say 'the disk has a bad block'

Is the hard drive dead? Any way it can be resuscitated? (all the data on there is backed up)

Thanks

Throw it away, buy a new drive and restore the data from your backup.

Faulty hard drives really hamper system performance.

So I've placed it inside an external enclosure and connected it to my macbook pro. Formatted as Mac OS Journaled

It was copying over fine at first but again has grinded to a halt. Time to replace this HDD
