right 2 of my HDD failed and got them back via warranty. (1 pending)
This means I have a rather funny setup of
80GB (Empty just received back)
160GB (1 parition - data)
250GB (Partitioned 40gb [Boot] and 200gb [data])
3 separate HDDs
The boot is on the 250gb because my 80gb which had the boot on it failed so reinstalled on the 250gb one.
my 160gb is knackered as well and i ahve to move all the data and get a return on it shortly
I think i want something setup so I have the bits separated into:
Boot (winXP and essential programs only)
Work data
Backup of important data
Multimedia stuff (Music, Videos and Pictures)
Misc data e.g games
so how is it best to setup my HDDs?
basic v dynamic?
since I can now setup the 80gb as a dynamic disk and when I get the 160GB back set that as dynamic as well. then able to span them together? This gives me the flexibility to extend partitions as they are filled. (by keeping some unused space as unallocated disk space i guess to addon to full partitions)
Or is it better to keep them all as basic disks and have several partitions.
Is it safe to store all my multimedia stuff and misc data in one big partition? say all on the 160GB.
with dynamic disks, if i had a spanned volume and one of the HD dies, does this knacker the whole partition? i.e i've now lost all the data on that paritition?
Thanks in advance.
rather set it all up correctly now then regret later
