Hard Drive Temperatures

I can't touch the side of my drive cage so am I tinkering on the edge of failure...

Some of my disks run cool at 44C but most are idling at 57C is this safe ?

Oops now that the machine has been up for a bit temps are approaching 60C

Can`t you fit a fan to blow over the HDD`s?
personally i don`t like the idea of my precious hdd`s and their data running over 45oC
but that is just me.cooler the better imho

Indeed looks like I'm going to have to.

I just checked some hd temps in a datacentre machine : 25C No wonder its been up for 5 years.

In the meantime I have instructed the drive to spin down when not in use as its a fileserve. Might just have to get a server case or something in the near future as its pretty crammed in there for additional cooling.

My drives never go above 30c...mostly around 25-28

i got 1 for a project i am doing .gonna fit 3 sata 500gigers and power them in an old AT case with psu(need more storage and wanted an external solution)
oly had to buy the hdd as i had all the rest.

Good idea time to break this server into 2 cases and use some cooling.

I guess you'll have to link the PSUs with the wire trick (this would assume that both PSUs are ATX)

got my goodies from OCUK this morn
am currently formatting the 3 500 giggers as i type.nope psu is an old AT power supply,i just want these drives for storage/backup so just before i switch on main pc i press the button on the AT box and then press the button on main pc.main pc found the new hdds no problem
when i have finished with the main pc i will shut down normally then press the button on the AT box to turn off all hdds
that is my plan anyway
