Hard drive temps?

What would you say is an acceptable temp for a 7200 sata hard drive. Looking at the datasheet for the Seagate ES.2 the operating temp is between 5c and 55c. I ask as I have some running at between 59-61c, are they doomed :p

35 to 55 according to WD. This was for their scorpio drives, and it refers to the temperature reported in cpuid monitor and so forth.

Ive been told their mtbf halves with each 10 degree increase in temperatures. Crude to be sure, but suggests it does matter. 60 is probably fine. 65 not great. I've got a laptop on rma for running its drive at 72. Can you aim a fan at them?

Sorry, undoubtedly a dumb question, but what do you monitor your HDD temps with?

I would use RivaTuner etc, but it won't detect any compatible drivers on this Win7 system :(

My RAID card software has the ability to report and monitor the temperature of connected drives. FYI my Seagate 500GBs all run at around 32 degrees celsius. I would consider this acceptable, yours sound like they are a bit hot, maybe you should examine the airflow in your case?

There are some hard drive temp monitoring programs about, but speedfan will do the job, mine didnt go above 45oC in the mega heat of last week, and normally they dont go above 35
