do u want to be able to use the drive again?

if yes then just format it.

if no then just use a magnet.

if you're for example selling a drive, then download and burn to cd dban (boot and nuke)

it fills your drive with zero's (so it's totally formattable again, but the data is overwritten)

free, takes a while, but that's a good thing

If you still want to use your PC while wiping the HD, get eraser. There's a PortableApps version as well, but with fewer options.
