hard drives with usb3

Hi to all.
I have just updated my computor with a Gigabyte
890FXA-UD5, a amd 6core 1090, 2 externel usb3
2 gig drives. (3Gig sata)
The 2 externel drives exchange data between 50 and 80
but my internel drives (1 gig sata 2) only download at usb2 speed.
The bios say's usb3 is on.

Is this normal Or am I missing Something?
This is the case in both ubuntu 10.10, and win7.

Not quite following the post.

Are the external drives in USB3 compatible caddies?
What are you using to measure the speed?

Hi
yes the external drives are in usb3 caddies

The interal drives are connected to the 6 g sata
onboard connections

Down loading from the internal drive to the first
external caddy is at usb2 speed, but when I back
up the first external drive to the second external
drive it runs at usb3 speed.

My question is why the internal drive downloads
at usb2 speeds.

The file manager is showing the down load speeds.

The transfer rate in file manager is going to be determined by the slowest drive involved in the copy including any slow down caused by virus scanners, fragmentation, etc. If your internal drives are really running at USB 2 speeds then there is something very, very wrong with your setup (or HDDs). Try using a proper disk benchmark utility instead such as Crystal Diskmark or HD Tune. Both are free to d/l and use. Also bear in mind that the external caddies will operate at USB 2 speeds even on a USB 3 port if they lack a USB 3 controller.

Hi using HDPARM -T I get the following,

sda 500gig 93
sdb 500gig 74
sdg 2000 gig unable to read drive to small ??
sdi 1000gig 79
I have tried swapping the last 2 drives both cables and cases .
Result is the same nada
I know the drive works it is 3 quarters full of data.

Could it be HDPARM does not read more than 1000 gig.

Hi ,
Diskmark did not read any disks
Hdtune as follows

sda 500gig 104 max
sdb 500gig 44 min/57 max
sdg 2000 gig 134 max/103 min
sdi 1000gig 102 max

The slow disk is win 7
the other 3 are ubuntu 10.10 (2)
and Suse 11.4 beta 6

SOLVED

Its a problem with the icybox usb3 externel.
After much swapping of cables and drives
it narrowed down to 1 of the 2
