Ive got a hiachti 160gb sata2 harddrive and i have a folder thats about 50gb that contains all my pictures/music/movies/documents/programs etc.

And now when i enter it slows right down and feels like im running a slow computer, when i start copying stuff the folders open slowly and so do the files.

Whats going on? its so fustrating

PS: My CPU useage goes right upto to 90% plus and stays there after ive exited the folder and my computer continues to run slow. explorer is using 140-180k and tmproxy uses 58k, think thats normal though.

Tried defragmenting the partition/drive?

Also, go into Device Manager & make sure under 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' the drives channel is not change to a slower transfer mode, i.e. from UltraDMA to PIO mode :)

I doubt it's a hardware issue, it's probably just Windows struggling to get and sort the directory listing.

How many files are in the folder? Are they all jumbled in together or do you have sub folders? Which explorer view are you using (detailed, thumbnails etc)?
